Poker is the most popular card game in the world. From Texas Hold’em to Omaha, there are a huge range of stud, draw and community card poker games available to play. The success of poker has led to an array of poker tournaments being held around the world and online. These tournaments attract professional poker players and hopeful amateurs in their droves, who all want to win a piece of the prize money.

World Series of Poker
Without doubt the largest and most coveted poker tournament is the World Series of Poker. Every year thousands of entrants pay the $10,000 buy-in fee and descend upon Las Vegas to play in the WSOP. Held in the Rio hotel, this tournament is enormous and the highlight of many a poker player’s year. A win at this tournament is enough to place any poker player in the history books forever, plus it will earn them a hug cash prize. Aussie Millions

In January (Melbourne’s summertime) a series of poker events are held known as the Aussie millions. Unlike the WSOP which is typically one large event that is played daily, the WSOP is spread out over several weeks so visitors have time to explore the area a little. The Aussie Millions attract smaller crowds compared to the WSOP, but it is a solid tournament for any poker pro to tackle.

Sunday Million

Lets not forget about the biggest poker tournament played online. Millions of people around the world choose to hone their skills and play on online poker sites like Full Tilt. Pokerstars actually have one of the largest online poker tournaments – the Sunday Million – which is held every single week. The Sunday Million has a guaranteed prize pool of $1million, and this number will often increase as more people enroll. It costs $215 to buy-in or you can win a seat by playing in the many satellites that are held throughout the week.

There you have it, three of the best poker tournaments around. Good luck!
